QUALITY & SAFETY

Mid-Valley is committed to providing safe and high quality healthcare by incorporating patient safety and quality into everything we do. You can learn more about our commitment to quality and safety here along with how we compare to our competitors. Due to Mid-Valley Hospital’s size we are not required to report quality data, but we choose to contribute information in our commitment to quality care. We currently submit to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Washington State Hospital Association and Rural Healthcare Quality Network.

WHY DO WE MEASURE QUALITY?

Ensuring that we deliver compassionate, patient-centered care that is safe and effective is at the heart of our vision to be a world-class rural healthcare provider. By regularly monitoring performance, we can see where we’re hitting the mark and where we can improve.

HOW DO WE MEASURE QUALITY?

We evaluate the quality of care by measuring these factors:

  • Was it effective?
  • Was it timely?
  • Was it safe?
  • Did we respond to the patient’s preferences and needs?

We also:

  • Monitor safety and performance standards in all departments.
  • Use performance data to design and prioritize programs aimed at improving patient care and safety.
  • Train all staff in quality control and safety protocols.
  • Engage patients, families, leadership, healthcare providers and employees in the process of evaluating, ensuring, and improving quality and safety performance.
HOW DOES MVH COMPARE TO OTHER HOSPITALS?

Knowing how our hospital compares to other hospitals allows you to make a more informed choice when you are in need of medical care. There are several groups that measure quality of care. These reports include general information about certain medical conditions or specific surgical procedures administered as well as survey results from patients who have received care at MVH. You can use this information to compare our results with other facilities.

Please note: The rating for a measure will not be displayed if a hospital has fewer than 20 eligible cases. This number has been set in order to calculate a reliable rate.

  • Hospital Compare is a government website that allows users to compare the quality of care provided by hospitals.
  • Washington State Hospital Association rates member hospitals throughout the state. Using data collected by various vendors including the Rural Healthcare Quality Network hospitals can be compared.

These ratings do not represent all there is to know about the quality of hospitals, and you should not attempt to choose a hospital based solely on ratings. We suggest talking to your doctor about this information to help you and your family make the right decision for you.
